Joachim Voss, Ph.D., R.N.

Joachim Voss, Ph.D., R.N., has been an assistant professor in the Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems Department in the University of Washington School of Nursing since 2006. His B.S.N. and M.S. equivalent degrees are from the County Hospital in Moeckmuehl, Germany and the University of Bremen, Germany. Voss was a Fulbright Fellow in 1998/99. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, San Francisco. His research portfolio has focused on HIV-related symptom management of fatigue, and the identification of biomarkers for fatigue, since 2000. He pioneered the development of the first mitochondrial oligonucleotide gene expression microarray during his time as research fellow at the NIH. Voss has been funded as a principal investigator since 2003 from the NIH, the University of Washington, and recently by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He has published 10 research articles and four book chapters on HIV-related topics. In 2005, his work received the U.S. Public Health Minnigerode Award for Nursing Excellence and the U.S. Public Health Service Fay G. Abdella Publication Award for Nursing Research. Voss serves on the national research committee of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) and the Oncology Nursing Society. He recently joined the editorial board of the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.
