Jamila Michener, PhD, MA, is an RWJF Scholar in Health Policy Research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She received her MA and PhD in political science from the University of Chicago and her AB in politics from Princeton University. Michener’s primary research interests involve American politics, with a particular focus on the political consequences of economic and racial inequality. She is currently completing a book, Medicaid and the Politics of the Poor, which establishes how and why Medicaid matters for the political participation of the poor. Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the American Political Science Association, and the University of Chicago. After completing the RWJF scholarship, Michener will begin a position at Cornell University as an assistant professor of government.
