As a 2007–2008 Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow, Trautman worked for the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, US.. House of Representatives, where she had a front-row seat in the health reform process. She has served as the vice president of Patient Care Services for Howard County General Hospital, part of the Johns Hopkins Health System; director of nursing for Emergency Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and has a joint appointment at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.

As her fellowship comes to an end in 2009, Trautman will assume new responsibilities as the executive director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Policy. She received a bachelor of science in nursing from West Virginia Wesleyan College, a master of science in nursing with emphasis on education and administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and a doctorate in health policy from the University of Maryland’s Department of Public Policy.
